The minor league season got underway on Thursday, with the organization picking up two wins and two losses, highlighted by an offensive onslaught in Erie led by a Daniel Fields grand slam and a walk-off victory via Jake Stewart in West Michigan

April 4th Games


AAA Toledo Mud Hens
0-1, 4th in West Division

Louisville 4 6 1

Despite a ninth-inning rally, the Toledo Mud Hens fell short in their season opener against Louisville in a 4-3 final. Danny Dorn tied the game in the top of the ninth with a two-out single, but Louisville’s Felix Perez hit a walk off solo home run in the bottom of the ninth to secure the win for Louisville.

AA Erie Seawolves
1-0, 1st in Eastern Division

Erie rode a fifth-inning offensive surge to a 10-6 victory over Altoona in their regular season opener. Center fielder Daniel Fields tallied one home run and four RBI on two hits in the win, while four other SeaWolves also drove in at least one RBI. Kyle Lobstein went five innings for Erie to earn his first win of the season.

High-A Lakeland Flying Tigers
0-1, 4th in North Division

Despite leading after seven innings, Lakeland surrendered four runs to Tampa in the eighth inning to open the season with a 7-4 loss on the road. First baseman Aaron Westlake drove in three RBI for the Flying Tigers while third baseman Jason King added another RBI. Joe Rogers gave up four runs in one inning of relief for Lakeland and earned the loss.

Low-A West Michigan Whitecaps
1-0, 1st in Eastern Division

West Michigan 7 11 1

West Michigan needed extra innings against the Dayton Dragons in their season opener, but the Whitecaps prevailed on a walkoff hit in the tenth inning to top Dayton in a 7-6 final. Right fielder Jake Stewart reached on each of his five plate appearances, including a walk off single in the tenth inning to give the ‘Caps the victory. Josh Turley gave up one hit in two innings pitched for West Michigan and earned the win.
