Will Harris claimed on waivers by Athletics

The A's claimed right-handed reliever Will Harris off waivers Wednesday from the Rockies to help bolster their bullpen.

The Oakland Athletics have acquired right-handed reliever Will Harris in a waiver claim from the Colorado Rockies, an MLB source confirms.

Harris pitched at three levels for Colorado in 2012, starting at Double-A Tulsa and moving to Triple-A Colorado Springs before making his big league debut, pitching 17.2 relief innings for the Rockies with an 8.15 ERA. Harris has a minor league career ERA of 2.66 in 240 innings over 186 appearances, all in relief, over parts of six seasons. He missed the whole 2010 season due to Tommy John surgery on his right elbow.

Harris has all three of his options remaining and has been optioned to Triple-A Sacramento. The A's announced they have designated righty Josh Stinson to make room for Harris on the 40-man roster.

The 6'4, 225-pound righty was drafted in the 9th round of the 2006 MLB Draft by the Rockies as a senior out of LSU. He signed for a $16,000 bonus.

According to an NL scout, Harris is a two-pitch reliever, with a low-90's fastball and a knockout curveball. His fastball averaged 91.0 mph and his curveball averaged 78.0 mph in his 2012 big league stint, per FanGraphs.com.
