After an opening day win over Surprise, the Peoria Javelinas dropped their first game of the season Wednesday, falling to the Saguaros 8-4.
Cody Asche walked to leadoff the top of the second inning for Peoria and helped get the Javelinas off to a good start when he later scored on a base-hit by Stefan Romero to give Peoria a 1-0 early lead.
Asche would figure in the scoring again when he hit a two-out double in the top of the seventh to drive in Peoria's third run of the inning, cutting Surprise's lead to 8-4. The Javelinas were unable to continue their rally and wouldn't be able to do any further damage.
Three Phillies pitching prospects pitched in the game, with Tyler Knigge throwing a perfect inning in relief. Colby Shreve allowed one hit in one inning of work, while Jay Johnson was tagged for an earned run in 1/3 of an inning of work.
