Key Stats: Will Scott 4 IP, 6 H, 2 ER, 3 BB, 2 K; Andy Parrino 2-4, 2B; Jeremy Hermida 1-2, 2B, BB (3 hits total)

The Tucson Padres were unable to complete a series sweep Monday, falling to the Sacramento River Cats, 6-0. Sacramento starter Dan Straily struck out nine hitters in six shutout innings and now has a 0.96 ERA in seven Triple-A starts. Tucson pitcher Will Scott arrived from Short Season Eugene for a spot start in the place of Eric Stults and threw four innings, allowing two runs.

Sacramento scored twice in the second inning against Scott on a bases loaded single by Jermaine Mitchell. The River Cats added three more in the fifth inning when Anthony Recker picked up an RBI infield single and Wes Timmons hit a two-run double down the right field line. A sacrifice fly by Collin Cowgill in the eighth gave Sacramento its fifth run of the day. The T-Pads had three scattered hits Monday and didn't have more than one baserunner in any of their nine innings. Andy Parrino went 2-for-3 with a double and Jeremy Hermida also doubled, going 1-for-2 with a walk.

The Padres three-game winning streak came to an end with the loss. Tucson won five of the eight matchups at Raley Field this season and finished the season series against Sacramento with eight wins and eight losses.

Midland Rockhounds 5 – San Antonio Missions 6

Key Stats: Matt Jackson 6 IP, 3 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 3 BB, 6 K; Rymer Liriano 1-2, 3B, RS, RBI, BB; Nate Freiman 2-4, HR (21), 2 RS, 2 RBI; Reymond Fuentes 1-3, HR (2), 2 RBI

San Antonio – Nathan Freiman’s two-run home run in the bottom of the eighth gave San Antonio a 6-5 come from behind win Monday afternoon at Wolff Stadium to avoid getting swept by the Midland RockHounds.

The ‘Hounds jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first on a Missions error and made it 2-0 an inning later when Jeremy Barfield hit a sacrifice fly to score Josh Horton who led off the frame with a triple.

Midland third baseman Miles Head then hit a three-run homer in the sixth to give his team a 5- 0 advantage and it seemed would be more than enough.

Midland starter Sonny Gray held the Missions hitless until Jake Blackwood led off the bottom of the sixth with a single to left. The next batter, Rymer Liriano, tripled to left center to score Blackwood to put San Antonio on the board. Liriano would then score on Reymond Fuentes’ sac fly to draw the Missions to within three at 5-2.

San Antonio loaded the bases with no outs in the seventh but were only able to score once. Jason Hagerty hit a sacrifice fly to center that brought in Nate Freiman to make it 5-3. Blackwood followed with a single to right center but Cody Decker was thrown out at the plate trying to score from second and Jeudy Valdez popped out to first to end the inning.

Fuentes led off the eighth with a home run to make it 5-4. Dean Anna followed with a single and Nate Freiman, the Double-A RBI leader, lined a 1-2 pitch over the wall in left to give the Missions a 6-5 lead which proved to be the game-winning shot.

No game for the Storm

Fort Wayne TinCaps 6 – Quad Cities River Bandits 9

Key Stats: Cody Hebner 3.2 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 5 BB, 6 K; Travis Whitmore 2-4, RS, RBI; Austin Hedges 0-2, RS, 2 BB, SB (11)

DAVENPORT, Iowa– The Fort Wayne TinCaps led 6-0 in the first inning Monday against the Quad Cities River Bandits , but couldn’t hang on in the series finale, losing 9-6. The TinCaps finished their Western Division road trip with a 5-1 mark, and remain in the thick of a second-half playoff hunt.

Quad Cities (16-14, 51-48) starter Tyrell Jenkins labored his way through the first inning, surrendering six runs on five hits. Fort Wayne (18-12, 49-51) scored on base hits by Travis Whitmore, Lee Orr and Felix Cabrera, and Kyle Gaedele drew a bases loaded walk to complete the first inning scoring.

TinCaps starter Cody Hebner allowed three runs in the third inning, allowing Quad Cities to cut the Fort Wayne lead in half. Hebner worked 3 2/3 innings, allowing three runs, two earned runs, on three hits while walking a career-high five and striking out six.

The game turned with TinCaps pitcher James Jones on the mound in the fifth. He surrendered back-to-back home runs—a three run homer to David Bergin and a solo homer to Luis Mateo—allowing the River Bandits to erase a six-run deficit and take a 7-6 lead. The TinCaps struggled to amass offense as the game wore on, picking up just two base hits after the first inning.

The River Bandits added two runs in the eighth inning against TinCaps reliever Daniel Cropper, and Fort Wayne was retired in order in the ninth. With the loss, Fort Wayne’s season-best six-game winning streak came to an end.

Boise Hawks 3 – Eugene Emeralds 0

Key Stats: Brandon Alger 4 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 2 K; Dane Phillips 2-3; Ronnie Richardson 1-3, 2B, BB

Eugene lost for only the second time in the past fourteen games but still finished with the second best record in the Northwest League.

Steve Mims of the Eugene Register-Guard, an excellent source for information on the Emeralds, has a nice game story on lefty Brandon Alger giving up his first earned runs after not allowing a run in his first 22.1 innings pitched of his pro career.

Alger's priceless reaction on giving up his first runs of his career, "Whatever".

AZL Padres 14 – AZL Rangers 21

Key Stats: Casey Kelly 2 IP, 6 H, 6 R, 4 ER, 0 BB, 3 K; Max Freid 1.2 IP, 1 H, 3 ER, 3 BB, 1 K; Jaff Decker 1-4, 3B, RS, BB; Mallex Smith 3-6, RS; Adam Ford 3-5, 2 RS, RBI; Luis Tejada 2-3, 2 3B, 2 RS.

Kelly had a rough first outing after not being on the mound since early April.
