SAN ANTONIO -- In a game that was more reminiscent of what the Missions will experience in the southern division of the Pacific Coast League than the wind swept environment of Nelson Wolff Stadium, the Frisco RoughRiders sent the San Antonio down 11-10 on Wednesday night..

It didn’t start off well for the Missions when starting pitcher Tom Layne’s first pitch was hit into the right-center gap for a triple.

After the next two batters singled, third baseman Mike Olt, who was hitting over .400 in his last ten games with eight home runs, crushed a pitch to left-center which Missions’ broadcaster Mike Saeger called one of the longest home runs that he had ever seen in Nelson Wolff Stadium.

Layne then got the next batter, five batters into the game to ground out to first for the opening out of the game.

Yeah, it was that type of game.

The Missions, who trailed all game chipped away at the lead with crooked numbers in four of the nine frames but they could never really caught up from the big four run outburst of Frisco in the first.

“That is one thing about these guys they are always going to fight and not going to quit,” Missions’ manager John Gibbons said of a comeback that just fell short.

“They are group you want to go to war with.”

There were some individual accomplishments, mainly by first baseman Nate Freiman who finished the night with four hits and five RBIs.

Freiman who had stranded 41 runners in his past sixteen games was struggling since the promotion of 3B/2B Jedd Gyorko and 1B/OF Cody Decker to Tucson and many that are associated with the Missions thought he might be trying to do too much.

Tonight all four of Freiman’s hits either went up the middle or to the opposite field.

“With two strikes you always want to put the ball in play, you have to try to make something happen,” said Freiman.

On the mound it was a tough night for starter Tom Layne who gave up six earned runs in four innings pitched. Relievers Robert Lara and Nick Vincent, who just returned from AAA Tucson, each were touched up for a pair of runs.
