In Tucson RHP Jorge Reyes pitched another strong outing as the T-Padres offense continues to produce despite losing players to the big club. San Antonio was whitewashed, the Storm lose in sixteen and Fort Wayne's Adys Portillo has a rough outing.

T-Padres 6 -Nashville Sounds 2

Key Statistics: SS Weems 2-4, RBI; C Grandal 1-3, 2B, RBI, BB; 1B Clark 1-3, HR(6), RBI, BB; LF Roof 2-3, BB; RHP Reyes(W) 7.0 IP 8 H 2 R 2 ER BB 4 Ks.

TUCSON, AZ: The Tucson Padres fell behind early but scored six unanswered runs Saturday and beat the Nashville Sounds, 6-2. Jorge Reyes pitched seven innings for the third straight appearance and picked up his third Triple-A win. Josh Spence and Jason Ray threw a scoreless inning each for the Padres to close the game.

Tucson sent nine batters to the plate in the fifth inning, scoring three times on only two hits. The Padres took advantage of three walks and a hit batter in the rally, which also saw the ejection of Nashville pitching coach Fred Dabney. The runs in the inning came on a Jedd Gyorko sacrifice fly, Yasmani Grandal's bases loaded walk and Sawyer Carroll's infield hit. Tucson's Jonathan Roof went 2-for-3 with a walk and two singles in his first start in Triple-A.

There have now been three ejections in the past eight T-Pads games (Tucson hitting coach Bob Skube and New Orleans catcher Luke Montz were the others.) The Padres have won two of their last three games and have a 14-28 record, putting them in fourth place in the Northern Division, 15 games behind first place Fresno.

Frisco RoughRiders 13 - Missions 0

Key Statistics: Not a whole lot from this game. SS Valdez 1-3, 2B, BB; 2B Galvez 1-3, 2B, BB; RHP Sampson(L) 5.0 IP 7 H 6 R 6 ER BB 6 Ks.

A brutal night by the Missions and the less said the better. San Antonio made four errors in the field including two by Jaff Decker in center field.

Keyvius Sampson has struggled tonight and has had a tough May with a 6.98 ERA in four starts. The big problem that seems to be plaguing the MadFriars’ top prospect is his walk rate with twenty-four in 43.1 innings of work.

The one piece of good news is that second baseman Jonathan Galvez doesn’t appear to have slowed down from a solid spring. He is hitting .318 in the six games since he returned from extended spring in Arizona.

Bakersfield Blaze 4 - Storm 2 - 16 innings

Key Statistics: CF Noel 2-6 2 SB(26); 2B Spangenberg 2-6, RBI; DH Medica 2-6, 2B; RHP O’Grady(L) 2.0 IP 3H 2 R 2 ER 2 BB K;

In sixteen innings, two more innings than the standard minor league doubleheader the Storm went down in the top of the sixteenth when Storm relief pitcher Dennis O’Grady, in his second innings of work, gave up a single to 3B Travis Mattair to plate two runs.

Mattair was 4-7 on the day and drove in two of the four runs for the Blaze.

Except for the sixth inning, when the Storm scored two, Bakersfield held Lake Elsinore scoreless for fifteen of the sixteen innings. In fifth-three plate appearances on Saturday night the Storm were only able to generate one extra-base hit.

Bowling Green Hot Rods 9 - TinCaps 3

Key Statistics: 2B McElroy 2-4,;C Hedges 2-3, 2 2B, RBI; LF Asencio 2-4, 3B; DH Gallic 1-4, HR(2); RHP Portillo 4.1 IP 6 H 3 R 3 ER 4 BB 5 Ks.

FORT WAYNE, IN– The Bowling Green Hot Rods slugged out 14 hits on Saturday night as they defeated the Fort Wayne TinCaps 9-3 at Parkview Field. The hit total yielded by Fort Wayne tied a season high for the team, which has lost three straight.

Bowling Green (24-19) began the scoring with a run in the first inning against TinCaps starter Adys Portillo (3-2). Jeff Malm doubled home Todd Glaesmann to put the Hot Rods on the board. In the bottom half of the inning, a Casey McElroy single to center field was misplayed by Bowling Green center fielder Todd Glaesmann, allowing  Fort Wayne’s Travis Whitmore to score and tie the game at one.

The game remained tied until Fort Wayne (19-24) scored in the fourth inning. Newcomer Yeison Asencio, in his second Midwest League at bat, tripled to right-center field, and Austin Hedges followed by plating him with a double to put the TinCaps in front 2-1.

In the fifth and with the bases loaded, Portillo allowed a one-out single to Josh Sale that scored both Ryan Brett and Drew Vetterlson, catapulting Bowling Green to a 3-2 advantage. Portillo departed after that base hit, and Ruben Mejia entered from the bullpen.

Mejia worked three and two thirds of an inning, allowing six earned runs on eight hits, walking one and striking out three. Bowling Green struck for five of those six runs in the seventh inning, starting the frame with four consecutive hits. The Hot Rods tacked on their final run in the top of the eighth on a Glaesmann RBI single.

Fort Wayne was quiet from the third through the seventh innings, putting just three men on base against Bowling Green reliever Felipe Rivero (3-3). He tossed five innings in relief of starter Parker Markel. Rivero allowed three hits, one run and struck out five.

The third and final run for the TinCaps came on a Mike Gallic solo home run in the bottom of the eighth. Gallic has now recorded a hit in seven consecutive games and is hitting .390 through 16 games with Fort Wayne. During the hitting streak, the second longest this year by a TinCaps player, he has gone 15-26 with five runs batted in. TinCaps reliever Johnny Barbato, who was reinstated from the disabled list prior to the game, pitched a perfect ninth inning in his first action since April 28th.
