The win machine, Wade LeBlanc was on the mound. The only thing that could stop him was rain, and after less than 1 inning the game was suspended. Leblanc pitched a scoreless 1st allowing only a hit, and the T-Pads loaded the bases with no outs for Kyle Blanks when the game was called.
AA San Antonio
Missions were in a typical Wolff Stadium pitchers duel. Kelly had possibly his best start of the year as the Missions win 1-0
Casey Kelly cruised from start to finish allowing only 2 baserunners over 5 innings. It was slightly surprising that Kelly was lifted after only 5 innings as he only threw 48 pitches (34 strikes). I am guessing it is an inning issue. This was the first time this year Kelly has allowed only 1 hit, and the 3rd start of the year where Kelly did not allow a run. Kelly dropped his BAA from .294 to .285. Kelly has now won 4 in a row, 6 of 7 and allowed 2 or fewer runs in 6 of his last 8 starts.
Not much to brag about on offense. Jedd Gyorko raised his BA to .298 by going 2-4 on the day. His first hit came with Andy Parrino on 2nd and 2 out. Unfortunately, Parrino was tagged out on a great throw from RF Johnathan Greene. Jaff Decker missed his 2nd straight game.
High A Lake Elsinore
It was Jeudy Valdez and not much else. Lollis had his first rough outing in relief as the Storm fall 5-3
Jeudy Valdez got the game off to a good start with a 1 out HR in the 1st (#8 on the year). He then came up in the 3rd and laced an RBI double to left to tie the game at 2. Those were his only 2 hits but still a nice 2-4 day with a 2B and HR. His 6 TB raised his OPS to a season high of .760. In the 25 “2nd half games” Valdez is hitting a robust .298/.322/.579 with 6 HR compared to only 2 in the 1st half.
Low A Fort Wayne
Tin Caps jump out to a big early lead, but once again have to hold on as the bullpen makes it interesting. 7-5 Tin Caps win
Mark Hardy earned his 4th consecutive win by throwing his 7th quality start of the year and 6 in his last 8 G. Hardy went 6 innings allowing only 3 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 1 K. The 23 year old lefty from Canada actually raised his ERA to 2.68 even with the quality starts. Since joining the starting rotation when Matt Branham went on the DL, opponents are hitting only .231 off of him and averaging only 2.3 BB/9.
Cory Spangenberg continues to struggle in Fort Wayne. Spangenberg went 0-5, K and committed his 2nd error in only 7 G in Fort Wayne. The 2B, who started his professional career by reaching base safely in 26 consecutive games, has gone 2-27 with 2B, 1 BB, and 7 K since joining the Tin Caps.
Short Season Eugene
The Ems break out the bats in the series finale, as they win big 11-6
In 1 swing of the bat Jose Dore doubled his RBI total with the Ems from 4 ? 8. Dore’s grand slam in the 5th inning pushed the score from 4-3 to 8-3. If that wasn’t enough Dore would collect 4 more RBI on 2 doubles. Dore also scored 3 times. The 8 TB by Dore raised his SLG% with the Ems from .250 to .388. Dore was in an 0-16 slump entering the game.
While the Ems won by 5 the game got too close for comfort and with 2 on and no out in the 9th the Ems brought in their closer Kevin Quackenbush. Quackenbush, was coming off his 1st blown save and 1st run allowed all year, but did not show any sign of weakness. The RH from Tampa Bay shut the door on the Canadiens giving up a pop up, 40 ft single, and then a DP to end the game. It was the first time in 15 G that Quackenbush did not record at least 1 K, but he still has a stellar 30 K in 18.2 IP.
