The 4 clubs combined to score only 10 runs, 6 of which came from Lake Elsinore. Despite that the…
Leicester continues to get blasted, while the Blanks led offense tried score enough to make up for it. In the end the 3 ER that the bullpen gave up in their 6 innings of work was the difference in the game as the T-Pads fell 9-12
Leicester lasted all of 3 innings allowing 9 ER on 9 hits he walked 3 and struck out 0. When he went on the DL at the end of May he was 3-0 with a 3.45 ERA and a .238 BAA. With the loss today he is now 3-3, with a 7.02 ERA and a .315 BAA. In his 3 starts since coming back he is 0-3, 12 IP, 35 H, 28 ER, 6 BB, and 2 K.
Kyle Blanks just continues to hit in AAA. He went 2-4, 2B, HR (2), 2 RS, RBI, BB. Blanks has 12 H, 5 2B, 2 HR, 10 RS, 2 BB, and 5 K in 8 AAA games. Cunningham also added in the 9 run outburst with 2 2B while Tolleson continues to hit well going 3-4, HR (8), 2 RS, 4 RBI, and a walk.
AA San Antonio
Jaff Decker returned to the lineup after 2 days off and immediately made his presence known. In the bottom of the 1st with 1 out and 1 on, Decker doubled down the LF line (RBI). Decker then steals 3rd and comes home on Darnell sac fly. Then in the bottom of the 6th with the Missions down 2-3, Decker came up with 2 on and 1 out and hit another 2B (2 RBI). Those 2 runs were the difference in the game as the Missions win again 4-3
Lets hope those 2 days off are what Decker needs to snap out of his funk and back to the organizational RBI leader that he was until mid-May. To put a point onto how well Decker WAS doing his 3 RBI today equaled his output for the rest of June. His last multi-RBI game came on May 20th and his last 3+ RBI game came on May 7th. DESPITE all of that his 3 RBI today put him at 47 for the season and put him back in the top 5 in the organization. Decker went 2-3, 2 2B, RS, 3 RBI, BB.
Missions will eventually have a rotation of Kelly, Bass, Castro, Oramas, and Reyes. Of course Bass pitched in SD on Monday, and Oramas filled in for Leblanc in AAA earlier this week. Because of that the Missions needed rotation help. Rob Musgrave filled in and pitched well enough. He went 4 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 0 BB, 5 K. Kunz gave up the go ahead run in the 5th but Decker saved him and gave Kunz his 2nd win on the year. Spence didn't allow a hit or a walk over 2 innings (1.83 ERA), and Brach earned his system leading 18th save.
High A Lake Elsinore
Orlando Hudson was in town for day2 (possibly final) of his rehab assignment and he once again reached base 2x this time going 1-2, BB. Watt had by far his best game of the season….but the Storm lost, 0-1
Watt has struggled mightily recently has he has allowed 24 ER in his last 3 starts. Despite this, the management still felt he was deserving of another start, and he rewarded their faith by pitching 6 strong innings allowing only 2 hits, 0 ER, 1 BB, and 7 K. Watt had his 2nd highest strikeout performance of the season, and it was the first time all year Watt had a sub 1 WHIP for the start .
Low A Fort Wayne
Portillo couldn't make it out of the 1st and his replacements weren't much better. Tin Caps score 3 times in the 9th but it was WAY too little way too late. 4-14 final
I turned the game on at around 4:11, Portillo had a full count on the batter, lost him on a very close ball 4 and then was removed with the score already 4-0 Dayton. Sadly I cant tell you how he was before but his line of 0.2 IP, 5 H, 4 ER, 1 BB, 1 K is rather ugly. With the all star break starting on Monday hopefully the day off will help Portillo get back on track
The Tin Caps put Josh Worrell on the DL and Rico Noel on the temporary inactive list. The Tin Caps had 11 hits including multi hit games by Bisson, Quiles, and Powers. Unfortunately, the Tin Caps had 0 xbh, went 1-12 with RISP and left 11 on base.
