The San Diego Padres announced today they have placed catcher Nick Hundley on the 15-day disabled list with a right oblique strain, retroactive to May 5, and selected catcher Kyle Phillips from Double-A San Antonio. In addition, the club has transferred infielder Jarrett Hoffpauir from the 15-day to the 60-day disabled list.

Nick Hundley, 27, has hit .263 (25-for-95) with four doubles, a triple, three home runs, 12 RBI and 12 runs scored in 27 games played for the Padres this season. He opened the season with a seven-game hitting streak from March 31 to April 10. Originally selected by the Padres in the second round of the 2005 First-Year Player Draft, the catcher has hit .245 (201-for-822) with 44 doubles, six triples, 24 home runs, 109 RBI and 89 runs scored over 250 games played over four Major League seasons, all with San Diego.

Kyle Phillips, 27, has hit .316 (24-for-76) with four doubles, two home runs, 15 RBI, 10 runs scored, four walks and just one strikeout in 19 games for Double-A San Antonio this season. The left-handed hitter made his Major League debut for the Toronto Blue Jays in 2009, playing in five games and going 5-for-18 (.278) with three doubles, two RBI and a run scored. He was acquired by the Padres from Toronto on June 25 last season. Originally selected by the Minnesota Twins in the 10th round of the 2002 First-Year Player Draft, Phillips has hit .270 (689-for-2549) with 112 doubles, four triples, 59 home runs, 357 RBI, 287 runs scored and 252 walks in 722 minor league games played in the Twins (2002-05), Milwaukee Brewers (2006), Blue Jays (2007-10) and Padres (2010-11) organizations.

Jarrett Hoffpauir, 27, was originally placed on the 15-day disabled list on March 29, retroactive to March 22, with a strained right quadriceps. The infielder was claimed off waivers by the Padres from the Toronto Blue Jays on October 6 last year. He has hit .217 (10-for-46) with three doubles, two RBI and two runs scored in 21 games played across two Major League seasons with the St. Louis Cardinals (2009) and Blue Jays (2010).
