"He just comes to the ballpark ready to play," fellow prospect Nick Schmidt saids. "He's fearless in the box. He's definitely a good hitter."

Orlando Hudson, 33, has hit .245 (23-for-94) with four doubles, a triple, six RBI, nine runs scored and a career-high tying 10 stolen bases in 29 games this season. The switch-hitter posted a season-best 11-game hitting streak from April 3 to April 15, tied for the third-longest hitting streak in the National League this season. Over parts of 10 Major League seasons with the Toronto Blue Jays (2002-05), Arizona Diamondbacks (2006-07), Los Angeles Dodgers (2009), Minnesota Twins (2010) and Padres (2011), he has hit .280 (1191-for-4261) with 242 doubles, 56 triples, 83 home runs, 477 RBI, 582 runs scored and 70 stolen bases in 1,169 games played.
Joe Thatcher, 29, was originally placed on the 15-day disabled list on March 29, retroactive to March 22. He underwent exploratory surgery on Monday on his strained left shoulder. Last season for San Diego he went 1-0 with a 1.29 ERA (5 ER/35.0 IP) and 45 strikeouts against seven walks over 65 relief appearances. The southpaw is expected to begin a throwing program in six weeks
