Minor League Recap April 29th

Posted Apr 30, 2011

Another come from behind attempt in Portland ends with a blast, Missions get a real taste for hitting at the Wolff, De Paula can't make it out of the 1st, and Tin Caps can barely reach 1st

AAA Tuscon

Aaron Cunningham's eighth inning three-run homer over the left center field fence lifted the Tucson Padres to a 6-4 victory over the Colorado Springs Sky Sox Friday at Kino Stadium. The Padres have now won the first two games of the four game series.

The Padres scored five runs in the eighth against Sky Sox hurler Rex Brothers to come back after trailing 4-1 throughout most of the game. Brothers had not allowed a run all year before tonight. Everth Cabrera started the eighth inning rally with a single to right field and Cedric Hunter followed up with a walk to advance Cabrera to second. The first two runs in the inning came on an RBI double by Jesus Guzman and an error by right fielder Charlie Blackmon on Logan Forsythe's single. (courtesy of Tim)

AA San Antonio

Another low scoring game but despite being outhit 6-12, the Missions hung on for a 3-2 win. For more information, John was at the game and got a few quotes and has a full recap on the homepage.

High A Lake Elsinore

De Paula couldnt record 2 outs and the Storm were put into a large hole that they would never come close to being out of. 3-9 final

De Paula lasted all of 0.1 IP, in the time he managed to allow 7 ER on 7 H. He did manage to strike out the lone out, but I doubt that is to any solace for the Dominican. Zach Herr gave up his first ER of the season (in 12 IP), he threw 2 IP, 2 H, 1 ER 1 BB, 3 K. Dustin Pease trew 2 scoreless innings allowing only a hit and a wal to go along with 2 K

Galvez managed his first multi hit game in over a week. Galvez went 2-4, 2B, RS. Even with the multihit game Galvez has just 6 hits in his last 39 AB (.154 BA). Rico Noel went 1-4, 3B, RS, RBI. Gyorko had 2 singles, while Hagerty had the night off.

Low A Fort Wayne

Portillo got his first start in over a week. He looked great through 3, then held on in the 4th and then was finally touched up in the 5th, It didnt matter though as the Tin Caps managed all of 5 hits and went 0-9 with RISP as they fell 0-4.

Adys looked great through 3 with 5 K and only 1 hits. But then the walks came and he seemed to lose focus. The 5th inning started walk, 3B, sac fly, HBP and Portillo was gone. On the day Portillo went 4.1 IP, 2 H, 2 ER, 3 BB, 5 K,

Once again not much to report on offense. Garcia went 2-3, 2B, Cunningham went 1-3, BB, SB (3). But sadly this team looks outmatched and outmanned at nearly every position. It is sad as the pitchers have been outstanding but the offense has just been apathetic.
