Tuscon finally gets a day off, a pitchers duel in San Antonio, and the 2 A ball clubs score a combined 17 runs

No game in AAA today, Leblanc vs John Maine tomorrow

AA San Antonio

Now this is more like the Mission home games that we are all accustomed to. 3 runs were scored total in the game, the Missions went 0-3 with RISP, and were out hit by Frisco 5-10. However all that matered was that after a Phillips single, Cody Decker clubbed a 2 run HR that gave the Missions a 2-1 lead in 5th. The pen was great and the Missions won their 5th game in a row and 7 of 8, 2-1 final.

Buschmann got the start and was effective over 6 innings. He did give up 8 H and 1 BB in those 6 innings, but he managed to limit the damage by allowing 7 of the 8 hits to be singles. Spence struck out 2 over an inning, he gave up a single but then proceeded to pick the batter off. Colt Hynes pitched a 1,2,3 9th for his 1st save.

The offense was pretty much none existant for the Missions outside of Deckers 2 run HR (his 8th). Jaff went 1-3, BB, but was caught trying to steal 2nd. James Darnell had his 6 game hitting streak snapped. His # of games reaching base safely also was snapped at 13. Darnell went 0-3, with 2 K. Blanks went 1-4, SB (1), starting again at 1st.

High A Lake Elsinore

The middle of the order is coming alive and they are a forced to be afraid of. Jedd Gyorko hit a 3 run HR in the 5th inning to blow open a 1 run game. Stockton would make the game close off the Storms pen, but an RBI double by Hagerty would seal the game and give the Storm an 8-4 win.

Sullivan got the start and had easily his best start of the year. After allowing 2 runs on 3 hits in the first inning he settled down to allow 0 runs and scatter 4 singles his last 5 innings on the mound. Overall his line read 6 IP, 7 H, 2 ER, 0 BB, 1 K. He improved to 3-1 on the year with a 3.32 ERA. Miles Mikolas pitched a scoreless 9th for the Storm. In 5 G this year (5 IP) he has allowed 5 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 6 K.

Offensively it was Gyorko and Hagerty once again. Along with the HR (3), Gyorko went 2-5, 2 RS, 4 RBI. Hagerty meanwhile went 2-3, 2B, 2 RS, RBI, BB, HBP. Rincon had a nice game going 3-5, 2B, RS. Rincon is now hitting .375/.,432/.556 this year. The score could have even been more of a blowout if the Storm hadnt gone 2-13 with RISP.

Low A Fort Wayne

Zach Cates had by far his worst outing as a Padre, as he only lasted 0.1 of an inning. He left with 1 out, the bases loaded, and 3 runs already in. The relief was no help as all 3 runs scored. The Tin Caps would eventually find themselves down 10-0 after the 4th. Then the comeback started, 6 in the 5th, 1 in the 6th and 2 in the 8th put the score at 10-9. In the 9th the Tin Caps would get a 2 out 2B by Tommy Medica but that would be it as Dore struck out to end the game. Great comeback falls short 9-10

Cates was yanked really early, maybe it was a problem with his delivery, I am not sure. Either way his 0.1 IP, 3 H, 6 ER, 3 BB, 1 K line ballooned his ERA up to 6.46. Jackson came on and pitched a solid 5 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 3 K. Franklin pitched a 1,2,3 9th with 2 K to keep the game close.

Chris Bisson finally got his average over the Mendoza/Ludwick line (or is the Luddy line .150?). He went 2-5, 2 RS, 2B, 2 RBI. The Tin Caps really need to get him and Guinn going if they are going to make a run (not to mention Tate and Williams back). Blackwood continued his strong showing in the MWL going 2-5, HR (5), 2 RS, RBI. Cunningham and Medica both his a pair of doubles for the Tin Caps. Dore (2-5, 2 RS, 2B), Killian (2-4, 2B, RS, RBI), and Garcia (3-4, 2 RS, 2B, RBI) all had multi hit games at the bottom of the order. Liriano did not have as good of a game 3 with Fort Wayne going 0-5, RBI.
