Minor League Recap April 11th

A team is rained out, a team falls in the 13th, and 2 teams win by a combined total of 23 runs. All this on another fun day in the minors

Padres fall in extras 6-7

Tuscon fell behind 6-0 early before Forsythe and Rizzo took over. In 2 innings the Padres climbed out of the hole and forced an unlikely 6-6 tie. Skip 6 innings into the future and the Padres are still in the 6-6 tie. Sadly after giving up a leadoff 2B and bunt single, Quiroz mishandled a pitch and the run came in from 3rd. Padres fall 6-7 in 13

Jeremy Hefner got the start and pitched pretty well, despite the line. He gave up 5 ER, on 4 H in 4.2 IP. He walked 2 and struck out 3. He cruised fairly easily through the first few innings before giving up a painstaking 2 out 2 run HR. Later in the 5th Poreda inherited a runner on 1st and proceeded to let that runner (Hefner's 5th) to score.

Logan Forsythe led the charge for the offense smashing a bases loaded double to tie the game at 6 in the7th inning. On the day he went 2-6, 2 2B, RS, 4 RBI, BB. Evereth Cabrera went 3-5, 2 RS, 2 BB, SB (5), and his first CS from the leadoff position.

Missions took part in a HR derby, winning 23-10

33 runs on 36 hits combined between the 2 teams. The Missions hit 8(!) HR including 2 from Beamer Weems and another one from Matt Buschmann as the Missions manhandled Tulsa 23-10. Buschmann got the start and went 5.2 IP, 8 H, 8 R, 7 ER, 3 BB, 2 K. He also went 2-4, HR, 2 RS, 2 RBI at the plate.

Beemer Weems 2 HR performance was 2 more than he hit in all of 2010 and 1 away from his total in 108 G at Lake Elsinore in 2009. His 5 RBI also equals the number of RBI Weems had in all of 2010 (30 G). On the other side of the spectrum Weems, who has been voted as the best defensive middle infielder in the Padres system, committed 2 errors in the game.

7 Missions collected at least 3 hits in the game. Jaff Decker who wen 3-6, was a double away from the cycle, and turned the game into a laugher with his 8th inning GS. Sawyer Carroll was also 1 hit away from the cycle and like Weems had 2 HR and 5 RBI on the day. Carroll's 3 HR on the year lead the team and put him at nearly half of his 2010 HR total (7 in 128 G).

Lake Elsinore rocked the Quakes 11-1

Jerry Sullivan got the start for the Storm, and finally got run support. Jason Hagerty had a bases loaded 3 RBI triple to give the Storm a lead they would never relinquish. On the day the Storm bashed out 11 runs on 15 hits.

Jedd Gyorko went 3-4 with 3 RS an RBI and a BB. The one 3 hit performance raised Gyorko's batting average from .200 to over .300. Got to love young seasons and a big offensive day. Johnathon Galvez continued his strong opening week going 2-3, RBI, BB, and SB (1). Edinson Rincon managed to walk in 3 of 5 plate appearances, but more importantly played the entire game at 3B with out making an error.
