AAA Tuscon gets hammered 2-12
Simon Castro had a start for the ages... and not in the good way. Castro was torched for 9 R (8 ER), on 9 H, 3 BB, 2 K in 4+ innings. The young right hander was constantly pitching behind in the count, and struggled with locating his secondary pitches. With this the Sky Sox batters were able to sit on his FB, and that equated to an outing to forget for Castro.
Offensively the Padres got another solid outing from Logan Forsythe and Anthony Rizzo. Forsythe went 1-3, 2 RS, 2 BB. In 4 G, Forsythe has 6 H, 8 RS, 2 HR and 6 BB. Rizzo collected both of the Padres' RBI with RBI singles in the first and 3rd. He went 3-4 on the day, and in 4 G has 7 H and 9 RBI.
AA San Antonio falls late 5-7
Rob Musgrave made his debut for the Missions and had a solid outing. Over 4.1 IP, Musgrave allowed only 1 run on 4 hits striking out 4 while walking 3. Aaron Breit came in and squashed a 1st and 3rd, 1 out rally, by inducing an inning ending DP. The offense responded with 5 runs in the 6th, 4 of which came with 2 out. In the 9th, Brach came in protecting a 2 run lead. He gave up a 1 out single and, a strike out/WP that put the tieing run on with 1 out. He allowed another single to put the tieing run on 3rd now with 1 out. Needing only a sac fly to tie the game Hector Gomez launched a GW walk off 3 run HR deep to left field to give Brach his first blown save, and the Missions a 5-7 loss.
Anthony Contreras playing SS for the injured Cumberland, hit a 2 out 2 RBI 2B in that 6th inning. He went 2-4, 2 2B, 2 RBI, RS on the day. Sawyer Carroll PH for Breit in the 6th and launched his first HR of the year to extend the lead to 5-1. He has hit safely in all 4 games this year.
Lake Elsinore gets shut out 0-10
Searching for positives, searching for positives....none found! Lake Elsinore was demolished by San Jose 0-10. The Storm managed only 3 hits, all singles in the game that was over before it began. Michael Watt got the start and couldnt fin home plate. Watt walked 6 in just 4.1 IP, he did only allow 2 hits and struck out 4, but the walks equated to 5 R (3 ER). Stiven Osuna game on and was even worse, allowing 4 ER on 6 H in just 3.1 IP.
Offensively, Rico Noel walked to lead off the game, stole 2nd and stole 3rd, but was stranded there. Edinson Rincon went 1-2, with 2 BB. Rincon now has 4 H, 4 BB, 4 K, and 4 errors in 4 games this year.
Fort Wayne gets blown out at home 4-19
Stat of the night in Fort Wayne. South Bend went 17-31 with RISP FOR THE GAME! That is right for the game! Adys Portillo got the start and showed glimpses of greatness, but when he got hit, he got hit hard. In 3 IP, Portillo surrendered 5 ER, on 5 H, 2 BB, and 4 K. After Deiber Sanchez came in and pitched 2 solid innings it looked like the Tin Caps might come back to win the game (now down by only a run). But then Jackon, Marona, Franklin, and Dominick came in and the merry-go-round began. The 4 relievers pitched 3.2 IP, allowing 14 runs (13 ER), on 18 H, 1 BB and 4 K. A 4-5 winnable game turned into a 4-19 blood bath
Donavan Tate continued to produce going 2-4, 2 2B, RS, RBI, BB. On the year he is 6-15, 2 2B, 2 R, 2 RBI, 2 BB, 2 K, 2 SB, 2 CS (a lot of 2's). Tate has hit safely in all 4 games for the Tin Caps. Jose Dore hit his first HR in his MLB career launching a tape measure shot to right center. He went 2-4 on the day with that 2 run HR.
